I want to write an agent to select documents in a view. I think that's what "Select Documents in View" does in a formula agent, but I can find no examples/documentation of what this setting is for.

From a view action button, I'm creating a selection query, writing it to a profile, then calling .run on another agent, the formula of which is

query := @GetProfileField("Select Documents" ; "Query" ; @UserName );
SELECT query

The second agent runs, but nothing happens in the view.

What exactly does Select Documents in View do, and how do you get it to work?
